Kirsty Powell is an experienced English teacher and linguistic phonics tutor who saw the need for a simple but informative assessment of phonics gaps for her older struggling readers and spellers. The Powell Phonics Checker provides baseline and progress data about phonics knowledge. Ideal as an initial assessment or a diagnostic tool, it generates a score between 1 and 100 for both reading and spelling. The assessment has been created for any student aged 11 up to adult and recommends age-appropriate interventions.
